Wilderness training

BUILDING FAITH  |  Genesis 12:1-4

Widerness is a place of:

   UNCERTAINTY - The unknown

   ISOLATION - Seclusion, Just you and God

   FOCUS - Plcae to depend on God

   VASTNESS - Overwhelming

Abram: Father of the Nation of God; Father of Faith

FAITH is important, it's the essence of our relationship with God - without it we cannot please God.  |  Hebrews 11:6, Eph. 2:8. The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  |  Hebrews 11:1

3 Elements of Faith: INTELLECTUAL, EMOTIONAL, VOLITIONAL

DELIVERANCE  |  Exodus 3:1,8

God is the initiatory of deliverance. Moses would be the instrument of deliverance. The mark is being Christ-like.

REMAINING IN OUR DELIVERANCE  |  Psalms 34:7-9

We are to live in a constant state of trembling. 

Discipline: Hebrews 12:5,6 and Proverbs 3:7  |  We should fear disappointing our deliverer.

We are to love the taste of deliverance in our lives.  |  Psalms 34:8a

We are to learn to trust Him.  |  Psalms 34:8b

Discipline: Exodus 15:22, 16:2  |  Numbers 14:26,22

Proverbs 13:24  ...but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.

GOD'S WAY OF DISCIPLINE

The right way to approach discipline:

    Expect discipline as a child of God  |  Hebrews 12:7,8

    Welcome discipline  |  Hebrews 12:9

    Value discipline  |  Hebrews 12:10

    Realize discipline is painful  |  Hebrews 12:11a

    Realize discipline is training, not punishment  |  Hebrews 12:11b

PREPARING FOR OUR PURPOSE  |  I Samuel 16:11-13  |  David in the winderness

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and hope." 

When creating us, God has a specific purpose for each of our lives. 3 things to notice about David's life that helped him live God's specific purpose:

        We are not the masters of our lives, He is.

    Hebrews 4:15 "For we do not have a great High Preist who cannot sympathize with ot weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin."
